Inherited from Prakrit चित्त (citta, “mind”), from Sanskrit चित्त (citta, “heart, mind < longing < noticed”), from the root चित् (cit, “to notice”). Doublet of चित्त (citt). Related to चीतना (cītnā, “to think”), चेतना (cetnā, “consciousness”), and the latter part of बातचीत (bātcīt).
