   Synonyms: युवक (yuvak), युवा (yuvā), तरुण (taruṇ), जवान (javān)

2. a soldier, warrior

   Synonyms: फ़ौजी (faujī), सैनिक (sainik), जवान (javān), सैन्य (sainya), योद्धा (yoddhā)

• All senses are dated, or possibly archaic. The term is no longer in common use, but is sometimes used by people from olden times. Replaced mostly by:

  Persian-derived जवान (javān) (in colloquial Hindi)

  Tatsamas युवा (yuvā) and युवक (yuvak) (in formal and literary Hindi)
