Etymology
Inherited from Prakrit पंख (paṃkha, “wing”) (without cluster simplification), a variant of पक्ख (pakkha), from Sanskrit पक्ष (pakṣá). See also पाँख (pā̃kh) and पाख (pākh). Cognate with Punjabi ਪੱਖ (pakkha), Bengali পাখা (pakha), and Gujarati પાંખ (pā̃kh).[1]

Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘢𑘰𑘏 (pākha), 𑘢𑘰𑘽𑘏 (pāṃkha), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀧𑀓𑁆𑀔 (pakkha), 𑀧𑀁𑀔 (paṃkha) (with nasalisation), from Sanskrit पक्ष (pakṣá). Related to पंखा (paṅkhā, “fan”). Doublet of पक्ष (pakṣa). Compare Gujarati પાંખ (pā̃kh), Hindustani پَنکھ / पंख (paṅkh), Punjabi ਪੰਖ (paṅkh) / پَنکھ (pankh), Nepali प्वाँख (pwā̃kh), Odia ପଙ୍ଖା (paṅkhā).[1]
