Etymology
Modern rendition of বিস্যুতবার (biśśutbar), from earlier *বিউস্যুতবার (biuśśutbar), from an even earlier *বিউস্পুতিবার (biuśputibar), a colloquial pronunciation of বৃহস্পতিবার (brihośpotibar). The modern spelling reflects the regressive assimilation of ত /t/ to দ /d/ before ব /b/ and the Sanskritic hypercorrection of স to ষ (both /ʃ/ in Bengali) due to ṣatva.
