From Sanskrit ऋक्ष (ṛkṣa, “constellation; lunar mansion; star”). Cognate with Old Khmer ṛkṣa (“lunar mansion”); Modern Khmer ឫក្ស (rɨk, “auspicious time determined by astrologer; star”).
