Not given etymology by STEDT (cimʼ "transude, ooze through"). According to Luce, related to Old Chinese 浸 (OC *ʔsims, *sʰim, “to soak, immerse”), Tibetan ཇིམ་པ་ (jim pa, “mud”);[1] the Chinese comparison is supported by Schuessler 2007. Compare Mon ဇီု (“marsh, swamp”).
