အိမ်ထောင်

Burmese

Etymology

Often jocularly considered a compound of အိမ် (im, house) +‎ ထောင် (htaung, prison), literally house prison, although ထောင် (htaung) here may have been intended to invoke the "set up, erect" sense (both the "prison" and "set up" sense are considered etymologically linked by STEDT).
