Borrowed from Okinawan ちゃんぷるー, in turn from Indonesian campur (“to mix multiple things together”). First appears in Japanese texts from the mid-1960s.[1]

Superficially similar, but probably not directly related, to adjective ちゃんぽん (chanpon, “mixed together”).
