Etymology
Appears to be a Japanese coinage from Middle Chinese-derived roots, as a compound of 主 (shu, “master, main”) + 審 (shin, “judging”, short for 審判 or 審判員, umpire, referee, judge).[1][2][3][4]
Found in texts from at least 1929.[1]
