  • *sīˑλʌ (per Vajda-Werner 2022)
  • *siɬ-χek (per Fortescue-Vajda 2022)

Etymology

Composed of *siɬ (hot) +‎ *-ja (nominalizer suffix), literally hotness-season.

According to Vajda-Werner (2022) and Fortescue-Vajda (2022), a compound of *siɬ (hot) +‎ *χek (day), where the 'day' part would later be replaced by *maŋ (place) in Kottic. This explanation, however, fails to accommodate Arin and Pumpokol words for 'summer', both of which are omitted in their work.

Noun

*siɬja (no plural)

  1. (time) summer
