Schröttinghausen

German

Etymology

Attested since around 1300 in both cases.

The two municipalities were incorporated into Bielefeld, and a less urbanized rest into Werther (Westf.), respectively Preußisch Oldendorf, with effect from 1 January 1973.

In both cases an appellative from *skrattuz +‎ *-ingaz +‎ -hausen. The former elements are identical to Scredington in Lincolnshire if that is not from Old English sċrēad (a shred, a piece of land).
