The origin of the name "Tintin" is not known. While the series' creator, Hergé, never explained the reason for the name, it is asserted in The Pocket Essential Tintin (Jean-Marc and Randy Lofficier, 2002) that the name is from an earlier pulp fiction novel called Les Voyages Aeriens D'Un Petit Parisien A Travers le Monde. Various other theories have also been supposited.
