Etymology
Inherited from Old Czech bósti, from Proto-Slavic *bosti, Proto-Balto-Slavic *bestei, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *bʰedʰh₂-é-ti.
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): [ˈbuːst]
Verb
bůst impf
- (archaic) alternative form of bodat
- 1853, Karel Jaromír Erben, “Věštkyně”, in Kytice:
- Nalezli Přemysla na poli, an voly bode ostnem, pospíchaje, aby dílo své vykonal.
- (please add an English translation of this quotation)
Usage notes
This verb is archaic. Additionally, the past participle bodl wouldn't be understood in imperfective meaning but rather as the past participle of imperfective bodnout.
Conjugation
The future tense: a combination of a future form of být + infinitive bůst.
