Etymology

Related to cánh (as in cánh tay (arm)), cf. Khmer កែង (kaeng, elbow). In many Austroasiatic languages, the words for "elbow" and "side, edge" have similar phonological shape.

Compare Pacoh akeng (corner) and talkeng (elbow).

Possibly related to nạnh (as in chống nạnh) through an infixed form.
