From Proto-Albanian *drani, identical to Hesychian ἀρανίς (aranís) (misspelling of δρανίς (dranís, “deer”)), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰreh₁n- (“drone, buzz”).[1] Compare English drone, Ancient Greek θρήνος (thrḗnos, “lament”)).[2]
