From Ancient Greek ἐκτασία (ektasía), from ἔκτασις (éktasis, “a stretching out”) + -ία (-ía, abstract noun suffix), from ἐκτείνω (ekteínō, “to stretch out”) + -σῐς (-sĭs), from ἐκ (ek, “out”) + τείνω (teínō, “to stretch”).
