Etymology 1
Inherited from Ottoman Turkish ایك (iğ, “spindle”), from Old Anatolian Turkish یك (yig), from Proto-Turkic *iyik. Cognate with Chuvash йӗке (jĕk̬e), Kyrgyz ийик (iyik), Turkmen ik, Azerbaijani iy, Gagauz ii etc.
