From Proto-Albanian *leð/dᶻ́-a- or *lœ̄ð/dᶻ́-a-, from a Pre-Proto-Albanian *lai̯d/j́a- or *lōd/j́a-, from an Proto-Indo-European *lói̯ǵ-o-, connected to lidh (“to bind”), with the meaning going from "the (bound) one" > "(dry) stone wall, boundary wall" > "raised boundar, raised edge (of a surface)". In the two Old Gheg examples, it exclusively meant "dry stone wall".[2]
