  1. (especially nautical, aviation) to navigate (determine the position of a vehicle and keep it on its course)

Usage notes

  • Not used in the general sense of “to sail, go by water”. Not used with the terrain as the object (as in English navigate the sea, the shallows etc.). Seldom used of land vehicles unless technologies such as satnav are used.
