From Proto-Balto-Slavic [Term?],[1] from Proto-Indo-European *HrewdH-.[1] Cognate with Latvian raudāt,[1] Russian рыда́ть (rydátʹ),[1] Old English rēotan (“to weep; to complain”)[1] and Sanskrit रोदिति (roditi, “to weep”).[1]
