Inherited from Sanskrit सारथि (sārathi, “charioteer”), formed from Sanskrit सरथ (saratha, “with a chariot”), itself स- (sa-, “with”) + रथ (ratha, “chariot”), thus synchronously visible as a derivative of ratha (“chariot”).
