Compare related Norwegian Nynorsk slengja, Old Swedish slængia → Swedish slänga, Old Danish slængiæ → Old Danish slenghe → Danish slænge → Norwegian (bokmål) slenge. Perhaps with influence from Middle Low German slengen (German (Bavarian) schlengen).
