From Old Swedish sprængia, from Old Norse sprengja, from Proto-Germanic *sprangijaną, causative of Proto-Germanic *springaną. Doublet of springa.

spränga (present spränger, preterite sprängde, supine sprängt, imperative spräng)

1. to blow up, to blast (make (something) explode)

   Vi sprängde fiendens bas med en bomb

   We blew up the enemy's base with a bomb

2. (figuratively) to cause something (abstract) to (more or less violently) disintegrate, for example by (quickly) arresting enough people in a criminal gang or organization to cause it to break up

3. (passive voice) to explode

7. (glassblowing) to remove upper part from a glass product (taken out of the annealer), usually after form blowing. It is removed by heating the trace made with a diamond pen around it, and then the edge must be polished before the product is done.
