Etymology
Early 15th century. From Latin triplicātus, perfect passive participle of triplicō (“to triple”) (see -ate), from tri- (“three”) + plicō (“to fold”).[1] By surface analysis, tri- (“three”) + plicate, analogous with duplicate.
