Compare Trans-Himalayan comparanda like Burmese တူး (tu:), Nuosu ꅤ (ndu), Drung du. Despite the identical Sino-Vietnamese reading, 掏 (MC daw) is seemingly a false cognate, and its meaning "to dig" is most likely secondary, derived from "to take out, to fish out".
