From Middle Persian [script needed] (dstk' /dastag/, “bunch, bundle, group; handle”), equivalent to دست (dast, “hand”) + ـه (-e). Akin to Old Armenian դաստակ (dastak), տստակ (tstak), Arabic دَسْتَج (dastaj), Classical Syriac ܕܣܬܩܐ (dastəqāʾ), all Iranian borrowings.
