Directly borrowed from Sanskrit भारी (bhārī) or inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀪𑀸𑀭𑀺𑀕 (*bhāriga), from Sanskrit भारिक (bhārika, “heavy”).[1] By surface analysis, भार (bhār) + -ई (-ī).
