Etymology 1
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *HrasáH, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *HrasáH, thematicized from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rṓs (“moisture, dew”), *h₁res-. Cognate with Avestan 𐬭𐬀𐬢𐬵𐬁 (raŋhā), Ancient Greek Ῥᾶ (Rhâ, “Volga”) (borrowed from Scythian *Rahā), Latin rōs, Lithuanian rasà. Compare रस m (rása).
