Borrowed from Classical Persian شادی (šādī, “joy, wedding”), from Old Persian [script needed] (shiyâti, “happiness”). Compare Bengali শাদি (śadi), Marathi शादी (śādī), Punjabi ਸ਼ਾਦੀ (śādī).
