Borrowed from Classical Persian شادی (šādī, joy, wedding), from Old Persian [script needed] (shiyâti, happiness). Compare Bengali শাদি (śadi), Marathi शादी (śādī), Punjabi ਸ਼ਾਦੀ (śādī).
