จลาจล
Thai
Alternative forms
- จุลาจล (jù-laa-jon) — archaic, obsolete or dated
Etymology
Borrowed from Pali calācala (literally “shaking and unshaking; moving and unmoving”), from cala (“shaking; moving”) + acala (“unshaking; unmoving”); ultimately from Sanskrit चलाचल (calācala, idem), from चल (cala, idem) + अचल (acala, idem); possibly via Old Khmer ចលាចល (calācala, “social or political turmoil, unrest, or disorder”). By surface analysis, จล (jol) + อจล.
Cognate with Modern Khmer ចលាចល (caʼlaacɑl).
