เถิด • (tə̀ət)

1. used in a suggestive, optative, requestive, imperative, or affirmative expression, for the purpose of emphasising it.
   • 1939, น.ม.ส., “ต้นเรื่อง”, in นิทานเวตาล, พระนคร: โรงพิมพ์โสภณพิพรรฒธนากร, page 8:

     เจ้าจงกินผลไม้อำมฤตนี้ ความงามของเจ้าจะอยู่ให้ข้าชมไปชั่วกาลนาน

     jâao jong gin pǒn-lá-máai am-má-rít níi tə̀ət · kwaam-ngaam kɔ̌ɔng jâao jà yùu hâi kâa chɔɔ-mɔɔ bpai chûua gaa-lá-naan

     Thou shalt eat this fruit of immortality, [so that] thy beauty would remain for me to see for ever.

• The particle can be placed after another particle to emphasise it, as in เสียเถิด (sǐia-tə̀ət).
• The particle can also be emphasised by another particle succeeding it, as in เถิดหนา (tə̀ət-nǎa).
