This character was added to the Jōyō kanji list in 2010 and adopted this simplified form. Before 2010 the unsimplified form 麵 was the 印(いん)刷(さつ)標(ひょう)準(じゅん)字(じ)体(たい) (insatsu hyōjun jitai), and the simplified form 麺 was a 簡(かん)易(い)慣(かん)用(よう)字(じ)体(たい) (kan'i kan'yō jitai).
