From Old Norse Burgundaholmr, a name meaning something like "high or mountainous hill/island," ultimately from or related to Proto-Germanic *bergaz (“mountain, hill”) and *hulmaz (“hill, island”). Some believe the tribe name *bergundijô is derived from this place. More at Bornholm.[1]
