From *čь + *-to, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *ki, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷid (“what”) (cf. *kʷís).[1] Cognate with Lithuanian ki̇̀tas (“another, next”) and Latvian cits (“other, different”).
