Etymology

Borrowed from Serbo-Croatian Tesla / Тесла, from Proto-Slavic *tesla. Cognate with German Dechsel, Dutch dissel, Russian тесло́ (tesló), Polish ciosła, Latin tēla. Doublet of tela and toile. The name of the automotive company is a tribute to Nikola Tesla.
