Etymology

From weiß (white) +‎ Wasser (water). Most of the toponyms are calques from Slavic languages. The Lusatian town is attested as Middle High German Wyzzenwasser (14th c.), from Old Sorbian (cf. contemporary Upper Sorbian Běła Woda).
