beiliegen (class 5 strong, third-person singular present liegt bei, past tense lag bei, past participle beigelegen, past subjunctive läge bei, auxiliary haben or sein)

  1. to accompany (e.g. a letter, a package)
  2. (formal) to have sex with, to lie with
  3. (nautical) to remain in a stable position despite the wind

Usage notes

Only the auxiliary haben is used in northern and central Germany. In southern Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, sein is common in the vernacular and also, alternatively, in standard usage.
