The Französisches Etymologisches Wörterbuch links desver to Vulgar Latin *reexvagus.[1] Hence, cognate with resver.

This verb conjugates as a first-group verb ending in -er. In the present tense an extra supporting e is needed in the first-person singular indicative and throughout the singular subjunctive, and the third-person singular subjunctive ending -t is lost. Usage notes

Most commonly used in the infinitive form desver (to unsee) alongside an auxiliary verb, such as querer (to want), usually in the form queria (would rather, literally would want); conseguir (to manage to; to be able to), as in consigo (I can); and gostar (to like), usually as gostaria (would like).

Less commonly used in the form desvejo (I unsee). Very rarely used in other verb forms; see conjugation below.
