sappa

Estonian

Noun

sappa

  1. illative singular of saba

Latin

Etymology

Found in Late Latin, but of uncertain origin. Meyer-Lübke lists zapp* as a borrowing from Illyrian,[1] probably zappa and zappo having the same root, as the mattock's blades resembled the billy-goat horns. Related to Albanian capë.[2]
