verdutzt
German
Etymology
18th century, from Low German verduttet, participle of Middle Low German vordutten (“to confuse, madden”). Cognate with Icelandic dotta (“to nod off”). The form with -tz- may be a mechanical adaptation to the Standard German consonantism or alternatively a derivation with the intensive suffix -sen.
