Borrowed from Middle Low German juche, ultimately from Proto-Slavic *jūxà, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *jáušāˀ, from Proto-Indo-European *yowHs-ó-s, from *yéwHs. Cognate to German Jauche. Likely semantically influenced by Ukrainian юха́ (juxá, “soup”). Compare also Serbo-Croatian, Slovene juha (“soup”).
