Spelling with /θ/ based on Classical Syriac ܝܬܒ, from Aramaic יתֵב (yəṯeḇ). Denominal of or reshaped by a word such as ܝܲܬܵܒ݂ܵܐ (yattāḇā) or ܡܲܘܬܸܒ݂ (mawtiḇ), hence the absence of /θ/ even in dialects which preserve this consonant. Compare Hebrew יָשַׁב (yasháv) and Arabic وَثَبَ (waṯaba).
