- For the relational suffix, borrowed from Sanskrit -ঈয় (-īẏa), from Proto-Indo-European *-iHyos.
- For the possessive suffix, borrowed from Sanskrit -ইন্ (-in), from Proto-Indo-European *-inos.
- For the feminine suffix, borrowed from Sanskrit -ঈ (-ī), from Proto-Indo-European *-ih₂.
The first two uses were reinforced by Prakrit -𑀇𑀅 (-ia), from Sanskrit -ইক (-ika), from Proto-Indo-European *-i-kos. They were also possibly influenced by the unrelated Classical Persian ـی (-ī) and Arabic ـِيّ (-iyy).
