Reconstruction:Proto-Germanic/laubą
Proto-Germanic
Etymology
Differing explanations:
- From Proto-Indo-European *lowbʰ-o-m, from *lewbʰ- (“to break, flake or peel off, shed; rind, leaf”); see also *luftuz (“roof, sky”).[1]
- From pre-Germanic *lowpóm, perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *lewp- (“to bend, peel, tear, damage”).[2]
The connection, if any, between these two roots is unknown.
