From Proto-Indo-European *melh₂-wo-m, from *melh₂- (“to beat; crush; grind”); by synchronic analysis, a wa-stem nominal formation from *malaną (“to grind”).[1] Cognate with Latin molō (“mill; grist; grind”, verb).
