Old Irish
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): [am]
Etymology 1
From Proto-Celtic *ammen-, *ammo-, probably ultimately from the root of aimser (“point in time”). Matasović’s reconstruction *amo- cannot be correct as the unlenited /m/ of amm proves that the Proto-Celtic form did not have a singleton m between vowels.
