Etymology 3
From Aramaic חַלְּתָא / ܚܲܠܬ݂ܵܐ (ḥalləṯā, “basket; bucket”), from which Neo-Babylonian 𒄬𒆷𒌓 (ḫallatu, “wicker basket”) is likely also derived. Traditionally however it has been connected with ح ل ل (ḥ l l) in the sense of alighting, stopping, or unpacking for camp; thought as a device so named for its use at a campsite.
