Etymology 3

From Aramaic חַלְּתָא / ܚܲܠܬ݂ܵܐ (ḥalləṯā, basket; bucket), from which Neo-Babylonian 𒄬𒆷𒌓 (ḫallatu, wicker basket) is likely also derived. Traditionally however it has been connected with ح ل ل (ḥ l l) in the sense of alighting, stopping, or unpacking for camp; thought as a device so named for its use at a campsite.
