ขันหมาก

From ขัน (kǎn, “basin; bowl”) +‎ หมาก (màak, “paan”); literally "paan bowl".

ขันหมาก • (kǎn-màak)

1. (historical) bowl containing paan, used as an emblem of a noble person.
2. bowl containing paan, given by a groom as a token of respect to the parents of the bride at the engagement or wedding ceremony, often carried with pomp and show to the family of the bride.

     Another section [is as follows]: When a man and wife live together, and become at variance with each other, and thus want to divorce, the woman shall return the bride price and paan bowl to the man. But if they already have a child, it is prescribed that the bride price and paan bowl need not to be returned to the man at all.
