From Old Khmer leṅa, praleṅ (“to amuse oneself; to engage in recreation or diversion; to act without serious purpose, for the sake of pleasure or amusement; to play; to perform on a musical instrument; etc”), from which Thai เล่น (lên) was possibly derived.
