Etymology
A preterite-present derived from a secondary perfect of *mḗd-e-ti (“to measure, ensure compliance, take care of”): *me-mṓd-e (literally “to have measured, taken care of”).[1] Alternatively, from the same root as *mōtą (“meeting”).[2]
